I won’t let the rain get me down

Waterville, Ireland
Grey, deeply overcast and wet, that is what we woke up to this morning. When vacationing in Ireland this doesn’t get you down, you just do something different than planned. Since this time we are rooted in Waterville and there is no need to rush for breakfast times, we took it easy. We couldn’t see Church Island this morning but somewhere on the property lives a rabbit family. Youngster was frolicking around the garden this morning despite the rain, so we had some fun distraction. We laid a carrot out for them, but so far no one has touched it. Going through our different tourist pamphlets we decided on a visit to Crag Cave in Castleisland. On the way there we stopped to buy two further maps in order to find our way around the area. Sooo many things to see and do. But we decided we didn’t really want to hike in the rain if we could find something else to do. During the drive we listened to Celtic Thunder and Rea Garvey, singing along and enjoying the green countryside. We drove along the Wild Atlantic Way, but a photo stop was just not possible, the clouds hung so deep from the sky, there was no hope of sunshine. Driving through Killorglin, Karsten had us looking for a place that sells smoked salmon. I found it, and right next to it was a store with woolen products. So we continued on with salmon, two sweatshirts, one t-shirt and one short ruana wrap. We finally arrived at Crag Cave and didn’t have to wait long for our tour. We had a wonderful guide, Ben, who was very informative, funny and enthusiastic. We can recommend Crag Cave. It was late afternoon when we headed back, we needed some fresh groceries and stopped to buy some. A personal mention here, grocery shopping in Ireland is much more fun than in Germany, as they have a good variety as in the US. The people are also friendlier, so get ready for some aggression when we’re back on the mainland. We also had planned on going out for dinner, but Eric wasn’t up to it, so Karsten cooked some spaghetti bolognese. We opened a bottle of red wine and enjoyed. Just in time for the soccer game we were finished, as I am now. Plans for tomorrow? Sure. Will we follow through? Maybe. More tomorrow night.
