Our night at the Alltonside B&B was excellent. The breakfast delicious with ham and assorted cheeses.
A day can only handle a few things to see and do. At this point we know that we will come back to Scotland. Today we drove towards Loch Ness. Along the way we finally saw some deer. Not free and wild, but better than nothing. (I watched too many Outlander opening scenes). We then stopped at the highly frequented tourist destination Urquhart Castle. It was so overrun, that we had to park way, way down the road. It was about 30 minutes of uphill walking to get back to the castle. There were people everywhere. What was nice about the castle is that you can actually walk down to the Loch Ness and stick your finger or maybe on warmer days your toes into it.
Our next destination was an hour away. Glenmorangie Distillery. We called ahead of time to ensure that we would be able to take part in a tour. We arrived on time with some to spare. We had hoped to get a bite to eat as we hadn’t eaten since breakfast. But except whisky they didn’t have anything. The tour was interesting and if we do a couple more, then we can probably do the talking ourselves. Very nice was that we were in the warehouse and had a peek at the very, very old casks. Due to the high amount of alcohol in the air we couldn’t take any pictures during the tour.
From there we headed for our B&B Strathmoy in Muir of Ord. As we were starving, we followed the recommendation and drove 6 minutes to Strathpeffer and had once again an excellent dinner. The restaurant is called „The Red Poppy“
