Our night at the Best Western was great. Even though our room was faced to the main road but all night it was quiet. Breakfast was amazing and included in the price. I took the opportunity and ordered Haggis and was pleasantly surprised. Spicy and yummy.
We started for our next destination which is Fort William, located in the Highlands. Belonging to the Glencoe region which is famous for hiking and skiing.our main goal was to see the Steall Fall and the Nevis Gorge. The walk to the falls is 2 out of 5 Hiking Boots. So we knew it would’ve doable.
On the way to the Falls we stopped several times to take pictures. This is where we had our very first encounter with Scotland’s Midges. Tiny little flies that bite. At the Glencoe Visitor Center we bought ourselves some nets to protect our heads and faces.
Good idea.
We call ourselves „Comfort Zone Tourists“. We could have parked the car much earlier and walk, but we decided to drive to the carpark and start from there. We weren’t the only ones. The road to the carpark was only wide enough for one car. When we arrived there was one space and it was ours. The Audi that was in front of us didn’t see it and when we got out of the car, they were heading back out again.
It was drizzling but at no point were we caught in the pouring rain. But we were attacked by Midges. There were millions of them and we were protected. Of course the view couldn’t be enjoyed but the hike was worthwhile. Climbing over tiny waterfalls, rocks and stones. Not always an even straight path. Challenging maybe for me, but fun for us all. Arriving at the falls, they were breathtaking. If it weren’t for the Midges I could have stayed much longer, the glen is also quite lovely.
But then we had to head back. I thought we were quicker on the way back. When we got to the car and then stopped at the Glen Navi’s Restaurant where we did an inventory of the bites. Guess Eric was the favorite meal for the Midges. A difference it cute encounter where the little sheep that actually crossed the street and were so adorable.
We had excellent dinner at The Clan Macduff. I’ve stopped counting calories. It’s useless.
Destination tomorrow: Inverness and Nessie.
