Waterville, Ireland

It was still dark out when I heard the rain pattering against the window. So I turned around and fell asleep again. We took it easy and had a slow start. Tea and a book in bed, then deciding what to do. For breakfast I made an omelette with cheddar cheese and we had salmon with Hellmanns on toast. Barry’s tea with milk and orange juice. It was 11:00 when we finished breakfast. We headed to downtown Waterville and took a walk along the promenade. It was pretty windy. Since our anniversary is next Monday, we booked a table for dinner at the Butler Arms Hotel. This is where Charlie Chaplin stayed when he was in Waterville. The sun starting coming out so we looked at what else Kerry has to offer We then decided to head for Portmagee to find out what our chances are to get on Skellig Michael. Our next stop was to the Geokaun Mountain and Fogher Cliffs. Here we walked a 1 mile loop and found out more on Irish history and mythology. It was extremely windy, but when the sun came out it was actually quite nice. When we headed back to Waterville, we decided that I won’t have to cook and had dinner at the number 1 restaurant in Waterville. An Corcán restaurant. I had old-fashioned fish and chips with a super yummy tartar sauce. Karsten had a steak and mushroom sandwich, which I would have chosen if I liked mushrooms. But I don’t, so I snitched a piece of meat and found that it was also delicious. Eric had a hamburger with cheese and bacon. One thing that the Irish don’t really do well is bacon. But then nobody’s perfect. Now we’re back at our Eightercua house. The clouds are hanging like a heavy blanket over Lough Currane. When I look up, I can see Church Island it has ruins of a 12th century church on it. If the weather permits we plan to go fishing (it’s called angling here) tomorrow, perhaps a stop at Church Island is doable.
