Cape Coral, FL
The day started off again with a lot of sunshine. We’re slowly reaching vacation mode. It’s getting more difficult to get up in the morning. We quickly agreed upon a beach day. We enjoyed Lovers Key two years ago, so we decided to head for that beach again. Little did we know that road construction was going on on Ft. Myers Beach. It is interesting to compare the differences of how people drive and what jobs people have during a road construction. Whereas we in Europe work with traffic lights, here people stand in the sweltering heat (95F) holding signs with one side „slow“ and the other side „stop“. It took a bit longer to get to the beach, but we had enough protection with us to keep us from getting sunburnt. When we arrived at the State Park, we were welcomed by a friendly official, who confirmed that the entry fee had not changed in 2 years. We paid 8$ for entry and parking. We didn’t have to wait long for the tram to take us to the beach. Even though the tram was full, the beach was nearly empty, the driver told us that the water temperature was 87F. That sounded warm. It was. Never was I so fast under water than this morning. It felt like swimming in a bathtub. We saw dolphins, pelicans, seagulls and other birds. When we took out our sandwiches for lunch we were quickly surrounded by seagulls, but we did not feed them. But it was fun watching them surround us. At the moment the men are busy cracking coconuts.
