Heading for Bath

Today our destination is Bath. We got up early, had our breakfast at 7:30, finished packing and happily left our cramped quarters. We needed to get back to Gatwick to pick up our rental car. So we called an Uber taxi to take us to Victoria Station. Arriving there we bought our tickets for the Gatwick Express (approx. 40£ for the three of us).

The trip is only half an hour and takes you to the South Terminal of the airport. We transferred to the North Terminal to pick up our two big suitcases and then to pick up our car. The service picking the car up at Enterprise was excellent. We were pleasantly surprised. We took our time started off and then the rain started. Before Bath we wanted to head for Avebury. I had heard and read a lot about the worlds biggest stone circle. Everyone knows Stonehenge, but at Avebury you can actually walk amongst the stones and just wonder how and why they were erected there.

When we arrived we first saw the old alley and a car with a Hamburg license plate. And it was raining cats and dogs. What to do? Find something to eat. We headed straight for the village and found another „Red Lion“. The food was good, we didn’t encounter any ghost but then again it was broad daylight. While we were eating the sun came out and we headed out to the stones.

The stone circle was probably built about 2.600 BC and standing next to one is amazing.

But it was time to continue on to our B&B in Bath, which was still an hour away. Our stay is now for two nights at „The Old Red House“. The house is 100 years old and uses to be a patisserie and bakers shop. It does stand out compared to the identical constructed houses along the street. After checking in we took a nap and then headed downtown to Bath. So much fresh air can be devastating for the waistline. Iowa’s hungry again. We found a cute tapas bar called „Pintxo“. We had sangria and tapas (yes we still are in the UK), excellent food and excellent service. Highly recommending!
